About

I am a linguist and Professor at the Federal University of Alagoas. My research focuses on speech, particularly prosody and its relations to discourse organization, language processing and, more recently, speech technologies.

I hold a PhD in Linguistics from Simon Fraser University and have been an Associate Professor at UFAL since 2010. I am also a CNPq Research Productivity Fellow, level 1D. My background is in phonetics and prosody; in recent years, I have systematically incorporated online processing methods, eye tracking, EEG and multimodal analysis while continuing work on corpora, documentation and discourse structure.

At UFAL, I lead the Studies in Phonetics and Phonology group — fonUFAL — and work on building experimental infrastructure for phonetics and language processing. Training undergraduate researchers, master’s students and PhD students is a core part of this work.

I am also involved in science policy, scholarly publishing and international networks: I serve on CIPL’s Executive Committee, coordinate ALFAL’s Prosody and Interfaces Project, am Editor-in-Chief of Cadernos de Linguística and serve on CNPq’s Advisory Committee for Language and Linguistics.
