fonUFAL offers Introduction to Acoustic Phonetics course
The extension course Introduction to Acoustic Phonetics, offered by fonUFAL, began in September 2026. The initiative is aimed primarily at undergraduate students in Languages and related fields who are interested in expanding their knowledge of the acoustic dimension of speech sounds and its applications in linguistic research.
Taught by Arthur Terto and Ebson Silva, the course is held remotely, with weekly synchronous sessions on Tuesdays. The activities combine theoretical knowledge with practical work on the understanding and analysis of acoustic properties of speech using Praat, a software package widely used in experimental research in Phonetics and Phonology.
The course is designed to provide participants with an introduction to the foundations of Acoustic Phonetics and to basic procedures for instrumental speech analysis, supporting their academic training and the development of skills required for linguistic research in the field.
